[Vash hasn't had any reason to celebrate his birthday in over a century. Just another reminder that he was different from everyone else. So while he doesn't really want to do anything for himself the thought of doing something for his brother strikes him as fun.
Which is why on their birthday Knives will get a knock on his door. A creature that looks more dog than person stands there in a delivery uniform. He's got a box labeled this way up, fragile, do not drop or set anything on top. Plus a handful of balloons that say: Happy birthday! Which should be a clear indication who the package is from. Sign here please.
[When Knives opens the package he'll find a few things. Starting with a card with Vash's cursive handwriting inside.] Happy birthday brother. Sorry for missing all the other ones. Not like either of us had a clear mailing address. [A hand drawn winky face is drawn inside. Then just below that is an ominous bit of text.]
P.S. Sorry about the cake. Next time I'll remember 'normal' shape does not mean square.
[What could Vash mean by that? Well Knives doesn't have to question it for very long if he opens the box labeled cake. It's in a rather questionable shape that Vash has done his best to hide and redecorate. At least it's super moist and delicious if Knives chooses to eat it.
There are also a couple gifts inside! Wrapped in colourful birthday paper. Inside the first is a book that Knives may not appreciate. Vash has skimmed through and decided it has some good points on how to make friends!
The second gift is a little more useful. A little tree that grows grass. Vash is hopeful his brother will like this one better.
Happy birthday Knives.]

I was hoping you'd like that. They have a bunch of other fun and not so fun shapes if you ever want a friend for your plant.
And you should at least give the book a try. It could be useful. [He's just assuming the best reaction the book got was an eye roll before being used as a coaster.]

KNIVES! Why didn't you tell me you couldn't read!? I'll teach you! [He jokes over text. So clearly he knows his brother can read.]
Maybe you forgot how. It's the only reason you would so rudely refuse to read a book I got for you.
I thought start simple. It has some good points on how to start and explains the basics really well! Like don't be a jerk and think about the other person's feelings.
And I think you do need to know. Especially in this city.

YOU HAVE?!!!??!?! ALREADY????! 😱😱😱😱🤯
[He doesn't really want details. He's just shocked (and slightly jealous) that Knives beat how long it took Vash to find someone.
It just wasn't fair!]

That's good.
[SO JEALOUS.]
If they like chocolate you can share the cake with them.

[Vash instantly thinks of Ralph. He had mentioned that he met Knives.] Is it Ralph? Ralph is nice, but I hope you two are doing more than talking about humans together.
[Vash gets the feeling this is a terrible pair together.]

THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEAN AND YOU KNOW IT! [This one comes instantly screaming over their mental link. Vash is currently several floors up right now and within range.]
Yes.
[Although Vash relents just a little bit.] Anyway. Happy birthday. I hope you enjoy the cake.

Don't worry about it. It was a spur the moment kind of thought that came up when I saw the little tree. I didn't expect anything and I'm sure you didn't either.
Did you ever do anything for it back home? You know, after we split up?
Yeah. Me either. [Vash tries to keep his tone casual and relax. Trying to not bring attention to the way Knives reacted.] I'll let you get ready for your company.
