[Knives looks it over and then nods, moving to stand so they can walk to the office to file it.]

How long do these usually last?

Three months. [Vash could tell Knives that the contracts could actually go longer if requested. Even ones that last a lifetime. He's not going to.] But we can just renew it if we decide to stay together.

[Knives knows they last longer, because he already has the one with Legato, but he doesn't comment on that.]

Is that something you'd be willing to do?

[Vash takes a deep breath and let's it out slowly. Trying to buy him a little bit of time to put the words together.]

Let's see how these next three months go.

Worried if let off the leash I'll start killing?

Why? Are you saying my worry is unfounded? [It takes all of his willpower to keep his voice from becoming sarcastic.]

[Knives seems to consider that for a moment.]

I wish I could, but... There's a reason I'd prefer nonexistence.

[Vash does his best to give his brother an honest smile, but it's still a bit hollow. It was hard to be truly happy when he was basically about to sign his life away.] Well, you're doing a pretty good job so far. I don't see any reason I won't re-contract right now in three months. But, let's still just take this one day at a time for now.

[Knives accepts that, and doesn't speak again until they get to the office unless Vash brings something up first. He seems pretty distracted by his own thoughts.]

[Vash has nothing more to say. Falling quiet and in step to his brother. He doesn't even say anything except confirming that he agrees with the contract when it's submitted. Although he smiles back at the overly chopper office worker who processes their contract for them before congratulating them.]

[Once everything is done, they leave the office and Knives frowns a bit to himself.]

I suppose it really is common for siblings to have this kind of contract here.

The contracts don't have to be about sex. Actually almost all of my contracts have stated that I don't have to have sex with the person I was contracted with. [Not to say that he didn't.]

[Vash was starting to think he wa cursed. Everytime his contract ran out the Dominant would vanish.]

Yeah. Him too. So you don't need to worry about him anymore. [More like Vash doesn't.]

I hate it. And every day I'll probably hate it more.

But... It did give me the chance to be with you after... Well... everything. I wouldn't have had that chance otherwise.

Just... maybe focus on the positives like that. It might help.

I shouldn't be too long to pack up my stuff and move in. I don't own much as I should be alright getting it on my own.
