[Just as Legato doesn't need his eyes in order to track the impossibly quick movements that the Plants are capable of, neither does his shadow. When Knives flashes across the room, the creature doesn't seem surprised at all to find itself suddenly grabbed without warning. Its face remains set in a horrible, sharp-toothed grin as it begins to be dragged back away from its prey, leaving gouges along Legato's side with its claws.
In the wake of having his attacker violently raked away from him, Legato can't help a cry of pain and fear, and he struggles against the invisible hold gripping his limbs to try and see behind him.]
Master! Stay away from it-- [It's all the warning he's able to call out before his arms wrench back to the point of agony again... and the same influence tries to dig into Knives' limbs as well to peel his grip off of the shadow creature.]
[Knives is stunned when the shadow starts to use it's power on him. He glares but can't fight it off. He could never fight off Legato's power. He makes a frustrated sound and he fights against it.]
Bluesummers. This is yours? [That's the only thing that explains why it has Legato's powers.
He already accepted his own shadow, but some part of him had thought this had to be his somehow too. Why else would it look so much like him? He has to think fast before the shadow attacks Legato again.]
[Legato has never had absolute, flawless control over the Plants--he knows that Vash had eventually been able to shake his influence in the past--so, though the creature doesn't let go of Knives' limb until it escapes his grip, its hold over him does shake a little first.
The creature drops its mental influence completely once it wriggles free, leaving Knives able to move as he pleases as it scampers back over to its prey. Legato's clothes have been shredded, but he still has enough shirt left to grab the collar of, so the beast fists a hand into the fabric and hauls him away from the table until he falls to his knees beside it.
And there it pauses to grin at Knives, eager to see what he'll do next.]
Leave him the fuck alone! [Knives screams again and moves quickly to try to get between Legato and the creature.]
He's mine.
[He feels so possessive and furious at this monster for daring to hurt what belongs to him. He wants to rip it apart and so his body changes, turning into blades to attack the creature.]
[As Knives' body peels apart into weapons, the creature doesn't grip him with its abilities, only continuing to grin as if daring him to strike. The shadow doesn't run, doesn't fend Knives away, and doesn't let go of his pet.
Legato is seized too tightly with pain and panic to form words--either mentally or out loud--only possessing enough focus to quickly track the path of Knives' attack. He knows exactly what will happen if his shadow is struck, but it's likely the only thing that will get it to retreat. Right now, he is willing to suffer almost anything to be even temporarily free of it.
So, however Knives attacks the shadow, Legato desperately flicks out a mental reach to nudge the blades' trajectory away from anything immediately lethal.]
[Knives feels that pull change his aim and feels furious at how much he's being manipulated by Legato's powers. The first time it had been impressive, but in this situation, it just fuels his anger.
It isn't until the wounds clearly show up on Legato that he understands and realizes that his normal way of dealing with this threat needs to be scaled back. He doesn't want to accidently hurt Legato.]
What are you? [He demands from the shadow, still trying to put himself between the shadow and Legato.]

Get the fuck away from him. [He yells, voice furious and loud.]
