[Knives doesn't explain more, though, and instead goes to his fridge to see what they have.

He does have a bit of wasabi left over and pulls it out to put with dinner.]

It was still a lot of fun. Even if I couldn't properly taste food for the rest of the day. [Vash starts to throw things into the wok. Getting ready to start the actual cooking of the food.]

[Knives focus on cooking too. It's relaxing and surprisingly fun to do with this brother.

This just solidifies that he can't let Vash know what he's going to do because he wants to contract with him and have moments like this.]

[Vash smiles on occasion at his brother. This was nice, but it never last overly long before the fake smile comes back. How he wishes this was their life at home. Where he didn't have this stupid mark under his chin. A world of green and nothing but peaceful days.

Opps. He's started to daydream. Knives might want to poke at him before the food starts to burn.]

[Knives nudges him lightly.] Are you still with me, brother?

[Jumping a little bit Vash comes back into reality and starts to stir again.] Sorry! Guess I was daydreaming a little bit. I think it's almost done.

Daydreaming? What about?

Oh. Just... you know, this. [He's pretty sure Knives would like to hear that he was picturing happier days with his brother included in them. He's also pretty sure Knives would be less happy to know that Rem and Meryl were included in that fantasy.] It's actually a lot of fun being able to cook with you.

[A small smile reaches Knives's lips. He nods.]

It... is. Isn't it?

Yeah. It's still okay for me to come over for dinner while we're not contracted, right? [He turns off the heat.] You won't need every night for thinking. Take a night off to rest your brain on those days.

Yes.

[He presses his lips together after he says it.] Call first, though. I...

I want to try putting Bluesummers higher on my priority list. See how that feels for a bit...

[He sounds like he's not looking forward to it, though.]

Alright. I think I can call first. That's easy enough. [He goes around and picks out a couple plates for them.] This might even be good for Legato. I hope it is. [Or he can die painfully in a fire. That would be cool too.]

Either that or it will cause him to have a nervous breakdown...

We'll see.

Maybe-that-will-be-good-for-him. [He mutters under his breath before handing his brother his plate.]

[Knives makes a face that says he isn't sure he will.]

Vash... Can I ask you something with the understanding that it's a hypothetical?

Don't go in with a negative attitude. [Vash lightly scolds at the expression.

Although he starts to look guarded again at the question.] ...yes?

If I removed all mention of him in our contract, would you still want to contract with me?

[Vash takes in a long deep breath before slowly letting it out. Trying to give himself a little time to put his thoughts together.]

I've only ever asked for the one thing. And it's something I shouldn't need to ask to be included, but I sleep a little better with it there.

[He nods, accepts that.]

As I said, it's hypothetical.

Is it really that much of a problem? To ask for that one simple thing? [At least in Vash's mind it's simple.]

If I choose to contract with you again, I will put whatever stipulations you want on me, but it is not a simple thing for you to expect to have a level of control over Bluesummers. It tells him that Plants still have control over his behavior.

Then start with baby steps. Ask him a little more often what he wants and one day when he answers with his own opinion and not something he thinks you want we can talk about it again. Until then I doubt that one thing will make much of a difference in his mind. [Frowning he takes his plate and moves to go sit at the table.]
