I was actually thinking the same thing! [Vash can't help the big of honest joy and amusement that crosses his face. It doesn't last forever, he has too much stress on his mind to keep it, and soon enough the it will change back into the pleasant, but false, smile he always wears. Still, for that brief bit of time there is something warmer than usually behind his grin.]

And we should have everything we need! [He starts putting away the groceries they won't need right away while leaving out the vegetables. Grabbing out a wok as he moves around the kitchen.]

[Knives notices the tension in Vash, but he doesn't comment on it. He knows that he's the reason it's happening, but he can't reassure Vash the way he needs until after the men and women who tortured him are dead.

Instead, he focuses on getting a cutting board and knives for them to cut things.]

I was thinking either that or pizzas.

[Then, after a moment,]

One day, when I can stomach it and you trust me enough with her, we should make individual pizzas with your hu-[A pause as his jaw tightens.] With Meryl.

We could make the dough and pass it out evenly. Then everyone could put their own toppings on.

[There is some part of Knives that actually does feel guilty about all of the ways he's manipulating Vash today.]

[He does his best to hide it. He was going to give Knives time to think about what he wants but it was impossible not to think about what this means as a submissive in this city. Until Knives makes up his mind life was about to get a lot harder for Vash for at least the next little while.

And if Knives chooses not to contract with him again? Then... hopefully... he'll get paired with someone who isn't awful.

Although the suggestion of making pizza with Meryl certainly helps brighten Vash's mood once more.]

Yeah! That sounds like a lot of fun! And then everyone gets their pizza exactly the way they want it! And did you know they have desert pizza? It might be some of the best pizza I've ever had!

[That's exactly the response Knives was trying to coax Vash to settle in. Looking towards a better future means he won't dwell on Knives's reasons for delaying a new contract.]

You and your sweet tooth...

What do you even put on a dessert pizza?

[goldenglasses]

Lots of different things! Chocolate, strawberries, creme, chocolate, bananas, peanut butter, chocolate, marshmallows, and pretty much anything! [He grabs a vegetable to start slicing for their meal.]

[Knives starts to do his part to prepare dinner as well, and the brothers end up side by side as they get everything ready.]

Do you use a normal crust for that? Or put it on something sweeter? Oh, like a cookie perhaps? Or a brownie?

[goldenglasses]

[Vash gasps. Stopping mid slice to look at his brother.] That's a great idea! I think they use regular crust, but a cookie or a brownie would work much better! Or maybe even a giant donut!!!

[arkfall]

Of course. I should have guessed your mind would go to donuts.


That does sound good, though.

[goldenglasses]

How could it not donuts make everything better. [Thank god for his magical donut box. He'll still at least be able to have his favorite treat after their contract runs out.]

[arkfall]

I can think of some things donuts might not mix well with.

[goldenglasses]

Oh yeah? [He says it in a challenging tone. Even knowing full well that Knives is right on this point. Fights with 0 stakes was fun to him as he finishes off his last vegetable.] Name one!

[arkfall]

Fish?

[goldenglasses]

No way! Deep friend fish and a good deep fried donut are perfect together! [He waves a dismissive hand as he reaches for their meat. Cutting up in small enough portions that it will cook properly in the wok.]

[arkfall]

[Knives focuses on putting together their food for a moment as he thinks over.]

Wasabi?

[goldenglasses]

[Again Vash shakes his head.] That? That's a fun challenge! Seeing the hottest donut you can eat! [He laughs briefly.] I think that might be one of the only eating contests I lost. Wolfwood he can eat some really hot-- uh, actually wasabi might be good in the stir fry. Just a pinch of it. Do you have any? [He changes topics. Thinking Knives doesn't really want to hear about his human friends.]

[arkfall]

That contest was likely stacked in his favor anyway.

[Knives doesn't explain more, though, and instead goes to his fridge to see what they have.

He does have a bit of wasabi left over and pulls it out to put with dinner.]

It was still a lot of fun. Even if I couldn't properly taste food for the rest of the day. [Vash starts to throw things into the wok. Getting ready to start the actual cooking of the food.]

[arkfall]

[Knives focus on cooking too. It's relaxing and surprisingly fun to do with this brother.

This just solidifies that he can't let Vash know what he's going to do because he wants to contract with him and have moments like this.]

[Vash smiles on occasion at his brother. This was nice, but it never last overly long before the fake smile comes back. How he wishes this was their life at home. Where he didn't have this stupid mark under his chin. A world of green and nothing but peaceful days.

Opps. He's started to daydream. Knives might want to poke at him before the food starts to burn.]

[Knives nudges him lightly.] Are you still with me, brother?

[goldenglasses]

[Jumping a little bit Vash comes back into reality and starts to stir again.] Sorry! Guess I was daydreaming a little bit. I think it's almost done.

[arkfall]

Daydreaming? What about?

[goldenglasses]

Oh. Just... you know, this. [He's pretty sure Knives would like to hear that he was picturing happier days with his brother included in them. He's also pretty sure Knives would be less happy to know that Rem and Meryl were included in that fantasy.] It's actually a lot of fun being able to cook with you.

[arkfall]

[A small smile reaches Knives's lips. He nods.]

It... is. Isn't it?

[goldenglasses]

Yeah. It's still okay for me to come over for dinner while we're not contracted, right? [He turns off the heat.] You won't need every night for thinking. Take a night off to rest your brain on those days.
