[Knives pauses as he stares at the message. He knows why he wants to wait to contract with Vash, but he needs to find a way to make sure his brother doesn't realize it.]

It could just be another ploy to keep some control of your life, some connection you can't say anything about.

I don't want to do that to you again. I need time to think about what I'm really doing to you.

[Now it was Vash's turn to stare at the message for awhile. Honestly? Vash supposes it was a way for Knives to control his life, but it was a control Vash was willing to subject himself to in order to keep his brother and Legato from killing.]

But I want to contract with you. [But it was good for Knives to be questioning this, right?] Just, remember that while you think it over. Either way I'll have to have a dominant before the end of three months. Otherwise I'm going to given to someone random. So don't take too long with your thinking. Okay?

If you were free, you could choose someone you cared about. Someone who wouldn't hurt you.

But you haven't tried to hurt me in awhile. You've been doing good Knives. I know you've been trying to change and I can see that change.

What happens the next time this city influences me? When I have that power over you, there's nothing to stop me from locking you up.

And there are so many terrible things I could do to you.

Then we'll get through what this city does to us together.

Even you saying that is pissing me off. We aren't together. You can't be with me because I can't trust myself not to hurt you.

What do you mean we aren't together? We've been more together in this past year then we have for a century back home. Of course there are going to be a few bumps along the way. Especially when this city toys with our heads. You can't keep blaming yourself for those few times.

I don't want to contract with anyone else. [Is it mostly for that clause in their contract that won't allow Knives and Legato to not kill? Yes. It is the biggest reason, but the truth was Vash was starting to simply enjoy being with his brother at long last.]

Why? That doesn't make any sense.

Because you're my brother! [And also because of the no killing thing, but he wasn't lying with that statment either. Also he's not so sure he knows any other dominant at this point who would have him.]

[He takes a moment to reply.]

Do you know what's happening with Bluesummers right now?

I haven't heard from him in a bit. Is he still asleep? [Hard not to notice the lack of that blue haired asshole when Vash stops by for his visits.]

He was locked up. Now he's asleep.

I keep watching him and he doesn't wake up.

I heard that happens when people remember more from their home realities, but in his reality he's dead. What do you remember after you die?

I don't know. I have heard some people just sleep for awhile then come back with no new memories. It's just not as common.

Would you like some company? [Vash isn't sure how his brother deals with being alone. All he knows is that he is personally terrible at it. It's part of the reason he asked to stay in an apartment when Knives helped him get a place. He enjoys hearing his noisy neighbours.]

What I want is for him to wake up.

Then I want to figure out a way to be better for him.

Every moment since he was that bruised little boy has centered around my obsession with you. I raised him to consider my need to be with you above everything else. In his reality, I tore pieces off his body to fashion him into a stronger weapon. In ours, I snapped that body in half for crossing the line when it came to you. Every moment of his time with me has been centered around you.

And here I am doing it all over again. Forcing him to be included in our agreement as I care more about you being with me than considering anything to do with him.

[Vash had been starting to text that Knives caring about that now is one of the reasons he knows his brother has changed. Why he feels confident contracting to him again.

Then the last text comes in. Vash deletes what he was writing and starts again.]

All I've ever asked of him is not to kill. That isn't something that should be so hard to follow for anyone regardless of agreements. Unless there is something else I'm not aware of?

This isn't about the letter of the rule, it's about how I constantly prioritize everything to do with you over everything to do with him.

I can't keep doing that. I can't hold onto you without being worried about hurting both of you.

It's exhausting.

Our contract wouldn't hinder you that much, would it? I'll stay out of trouble. That way you can focus on Legato.

The only trouble I'll be is when I need to buy something they won't let a submissive buy on their own and I'll make sure to make those requests sparingly.

I could keep them to a weekly grocery shop.

Or maybe bi weekly!

Or monthly!

[It seems a bit surreal to Vash as he rapid fire sends out his text messages. He's nearly begging his brother to contract with him again. When at the start it had felt a bit like a prison sentence.]
